Bartomeu’s masterplan for Barcelona could severely prick Real Madrid

Josep Maria Bartomeu is planning to pull off a stunning set of moves which could see Real Madrid regret their decisions from a couple of seasons ago.

Barcelona sold Luis Suarez to Atletico Madrid in the summer transfer window but failed to land either of Lautaro Martinez or Memphis Depay to replace the mercurial marksman. With the transfer deadline day now having passed, Ronald Koeman must make do with Antoine Griezmann and Martin Braithwaite as his only first-choice strikers.

Koeman’s next bite of the cherry in the transfer window may now be in January, but whether or not he is able to sign his prime targets remains to be seen. The clubs across Europe are usually reluctant in letting go of their best players in the winter period and money is usually considered secondary in those matters.

Cuatro now claims that the Blaugrana president has come up with a plan that may impact Real Madrid. Josep Maria Bartomeu will explore the possibility of signing Espanyol striker Raul de Tomas. The 25-year-old is considered a very bright graduate from the Whites’ academy but his sale to Barca’s crosstown rivals came last year amid disputes over playing time.

In his first season at the RCDE Stadium, de Tomas was unable to yield as many goals as he would have wanted to keep his side in the first division and their eventual relegation mean that he could be on the lookout for a move to the top-flight. Raul de Tomas’ age is on his side when it comes to potentially joining Barca and his transfer fees would be low as well.

From the player’s perspective, it would be a great move as well. RDT never got the prominence he was seeking at the Santiago Bernabeu, but he may have a chance to prove himself at the Camp Nou and make Los Blancos regret selling a generational talent. While his transfer is obviously a risk, it may be beneficial if the player performs to his potential.
