PSG wants a name. Lionel Messi. The French club wants him to become the third Argentinian player in the team joining Leandro Paredes and Ángel Di María, and the fourth man if we count on new coach Mauricio Pochettino.
Messi is finishing his current contract in Barcelona on June 30 after over 17 years playing for the Blaugranas, reaching the top of the world. His love for the city is the main reason he would stay, despite some people state there is no chance that he stays any longer. If that is the case, then PSG seems like the most likely destination.
A few days ago, Leandro Paredes spoke to local newspaper Le Parisien and stated: “It is Lionel’s decision, only his. We all would love to have him in the team, for sure. But it depends on him. I know the club has already been trying to convince him”. The 26-year-old versatile midfielder has forged a good relationship with Messi in the Argentina’s national team.
Meanwhile, Di Maria, who shared three World Cups, the Olympic Gold Medal in 2008, and four America Cups with Messi, has revealed a desire. “I always wanted to share a club with him, I could happily retire after playing a season with Lionel. My wife told me ‘if Leo comes you will stay at least to prepare the asado [Argentina’s typical barbecue]’, and I would love to”, he said to Argentina’ sports TV channel TyC Sports.
The best memories
Argentina made an extraordinary 2014 World Cup in Brazil narrowly losing the Final against Germany. In the Round of 16, in an exhausting game, they defeated Switzerland 1-0. Di María scored the winning goal only on 118th minute, two minutes away from the penalty shootout. Rodrigo Palacio stole the ball and passed to Messi, who dribbled past an opponent and assisted the PSG winger.
