FC Barcelona – La Liga Has a plan for Messi
Joan Laporta has not announced any potential signings as part of his campaign ahead of the upcoming Barcelona presidential elections, which are scheduled for March 7.
Thursday, February 25 saw the former Barcelona president present his sporting project, one which is backed by former Valencia director general Mateu Alemany and former players Jose Ramon Alexanko, Sergi Barjuan, Victor Valdes, Rafa Marquez, Deco and Samuel Eto’o.
“We have had conversations with Mateu, but there is nothing,” said Laporta when asked about Alemany‘s potential role in the new board.
“I am sure that we will be able to find a way to collaborate in this project.”
Lionel Messi‘s contact runs until June, but Laporta is confident that he knows how to persuade the Barcelona captain to stay at the club.
“For [Messi] to stay, he has to be convinced that Barcelona he will continue to win,” added Laporta.
“We Catalans have to stand by the team again.
“I think one of the keys to [Messi] staying is for him to feel loved again.
“We want him to smile again. If that happens, we can aspire to everything again.”
Laporta went on to stress that he won’t hesitate to take tough decisions if needed and will manage his board with the intention of bringing Barcelona back to the pinnacle of European football.
“Out of respect for the professionals who are now working at the club, I want to talk to them when I arrive,” said Laporta.
“There are people here today with whom, apart from having a good relationship, we have had good experiences together and we believe that they can help us.
“All the new stages imply changes, obviously. Our pulse will not tremble when making decisions.
“Football has changed and that is something we have talked about with Mateu Alemany.
“We must move forward with things. We must be a reference in all areas.”
