Madrid: Lionel Messi scored 643 goals in Barcelona on Saturday, rivaling the goal record of one club in Pele as the Spanish giant drew 2-2 to Valencia.

Messi headed from Jordi Alba’s cross after the first half penalty was saved to be equal to the mark set by the great Brazilian player for Santos.

However, Messi was frustrated by the stubborn Valencia being forced to draw, eight points behind leader Atletico Madrid, who beat Elche 3-1 earlier in the day.

“I’ve played good football tonight, and I’ve had full control over the match, especially after taking a 2 to 1 lead and taking third place, but I’ve also lost the ball in the danger zone.” Barca’s coach said. Ronald Koeman.

“What I’m worried about is that sometimes the team doesn’t know what the game is about.

“We know that we are always a team that likes to attack and score goals, but sometimes we have to defend and control the game.

“But we haven’t lost the title battle yet. It’s a long delay, but it’s a very complicated season for everyone. The situation may be quite different in two months.”

Barcelona started slowly, scoring a goal from the corner to Muktal Diakaby’s unchallenge header 30 minutes later.

Antoine Griezmann received a penalty leading to Messi’s record goal when a French attacker was nudged by José Gayà.

Messi’s spot kick was saved by Jaume Domének, but the ball rebounded and from Aruba’s Dinkcross, Argentina turned the ball to the net to pull the same level as Pele.

Barcelona has advanced thanks to a wonderful scissor kick from Ronald Federho of Uruguay.

However, Valencia’s pressure was rewarded when Maxi Gomez stepped out in front of Barca’s central defender Oscar Mingueza and leveled with a cross.

Philippe Coutinho fired with 12 minutes remaining and Messi curled a free kick, but Barcelona had to share points.

Elsewhere, Luis Suarez defeated Atletico 3-1 and scored twice from close range, clearing Diego Simeone’s side by three points.

Atlético wasted a clear chance when French forward Thomas Lemar pushed the ball straight into Elche keeper Edgar Badía in the tight first half of the Wanda Metropolitano.

Suarez was much more clinical in the 41st minute as the Uruguay forward added a slight touch to lead Kieran Trippier’s cross over Badia.

Then, former Barcelona and Liverpool attackers stretched out and stabbed the lively Yannick Carrasco pass into the net in the 58th minute.

Lucas Boyé’s powerful header gave Elche hope in the second half, but Diego Costa, who hasn’t hidden the frustration of being demoted to the bench since Suarez’s arrival, concludes Atletico’s three points. He was penalized with 10 minutes remaining.

“I’m very happy to play again,” Costa told Movistar after the match.

“I’ve been hit hard by some, but I’m always regaining myself again. It wasn’t easy, but I have enough power to fight.
