Barcelona are hopeful to sell Samuel Umtiti over the summer transfer window this season. This is because Quique Setien is keen to re-establish the squad in the upcoming season to compete for the La Liga title in more effective manner as compared to this season. This season Barca haven’t been able to retain the title and have finished second on the league table 5 points behind Real Madrid.
The Catalan giants have shown interest to sign many world-class defender who can replace the Frenchman as well as Junior Firpo in the upcoming season but are struggling to allocate sufficient funds to sign any of these defenders.
Many reports have also suggested that Barca would like to sell many other players such as Arturo Vidal, Ousmane Dembele, Ivan Rakitic and Phillippe Coutinho over the summer transfer window.
The Spanish giants have also decided to make these players available and list them on season long loan deals with attached buyout clause as well as in swap deals. This is because the outbreak of the Coronavirus has reduced the spending power of many football clubs across the world and teams seem to be more comfortable to establish such deals.
Samuel Umtiti might join the Italian league.
According to the Forbes, the local press has stated that the 26 year old French international can be on his way to join Napoli on a season long loan deal. They further stated that this move will benefit Umtiti as his mistakes won’t be exposed the way they were in the La Liga as they consider the Italian league to be less dynamic. However as things stand, no offer has been made by Napoli.
Furthermore, there are rumours that suggest that the central defender might be interested to join the Premier League as clubs such as Arsenal, Manchester United and Newcastle have shown great interest to sign the player.
Barcelona could alternatively try to include Samuel Umtiti in a swap deal in hopes to sign the club’s transfer targets, similar to the deal that the Spanish giants established in which the club swapped Arthur Melo with Miralem Pjanic.
