MESSI SITUATION AFTER CONTRACT LEAK
Barcelona are set to take legal action against Spanish newspaper El Mundo after details of his £492million contract were published.
The Catalan club denies any involvement in the leaking of the documentation, which stated that the Argentine’s contract is worth 555,237,619 euros up to 30 June, 2021.
This works out to roughly £123m per season.
Barcelona released a statement which read: “FC Barcelona categorically denies any responsibility for the publication of this document, and will take appropriate legal action against the newspaper El Mundo, for any damage that may be caused as a result of this publication.
“FC Barcelona expresses its absolute support for Lionel Messi, especially in the face of any attempt to discredit his image, and to damage his relationship with the entity where he has worked to become the best player in the world and in football history.”
Messi’s contract expires this summer meaning he could finally leave Barcelona after spending all of his career with the club.
